Sam’s boyfriend, Dante, took the opportunity post-op to propose. But the newly engaged couple never had a chance to enjoy their engagement.

Sam unexpectedly developed a complication. Despite the efforts of Liz and Lucas, she passed away, leaving her grief-stricken family behind. Her former love, Jason, said a heartbreaking goodbye. Sam’s current love, Dante, also had the chance to say farewell to his fiance.

While Dante and Jason’s scenes with Sam were emotional, fans were not prepared for Alexis’ last moments with her daughter. Actress Nancy Lee Grahn has an impressive soap resume. She’s played Alexis since 1996. She also played fan-favorite Julia Wainwright Capwell on the now-defunct NBC soap Santa Barbara.

Nancy Lee Grahn took to Twitter on the day her last scenes with Kelly Monaco aired to commiserate with fans over the heartbreaking scenes.
The actress received numerous compliments for her performance, with some even suggesting she might win another Daytime Emmy for the scenes. But her Twitter replies were also full of heartbreaking stories from fans who lived through the very real loss of a child.
One fan wrote, “I had to change the channel when Alexis climbed into the bed w/Sam. Lost my son June 2022. He was 25 and severely disabled. Complications due to Crohn’s disease got him. I climbed into his bed as he took his last breath. Cant watch death scenes any more.”
Another shared, “I’ve lost my 29 yr old son to cancer almost 10 yrs ago. He was fine one day and gone 24 hours later. There is no script and no timeline. It just happens. Although it’s a television show, what happened is still life altering for all involved All the best to Kelly will miss her”
A third fan said, “My face is wet. Great performance. I have a sixteen year old daughter in need of a kidney transplant. The efforts #gh has made to bring awareness to the need for donors is amazing.”
