General Hospital Bombing Mystery: If Not Valentin, Brennan, or Sidwell, Who Destroyed Sonny’s Penthouse?
General Hospital spoilers and rumors present a mystery that needs to be solved, and the solution couldn’t come too quickly for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard)! If Valentin Cassadine, (James Patrick Stuart), Jack Brennan, (Chris L. McKenna) or Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) didn’t plant the bomb that nearly killed Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), who did?
Jack Wouldn’t Have Wanted Collateral Damage
Valentin confessed that he attempted to kill Sonny on Jack’s orders in the past, but the bombing was too careless for someone like Jack, who would have likely installed cameras.
He would have wanted to ensure that only Sonny was present, especially given his feelings for Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), Michael’s mother. The question of who tried to kill Sonny Corinthos by detonating a bomb in his penthouse remains unsolved.
Many want Sonny dead, but the way it went down leads me to doubt that Jack was involved; since arriving in Port Charles, Jack has had plenty of chances.
It seems illogical for a professional like Brennan to use a bomb and risk collateral damage just to eliminate Sonny.
Jack Did Try To Have Sonny Killed Previously
Valentin’s admission to Sonny about attempting to kill him by altering his medication on Jack’s orders certainly looks bad; however, he only reduced the dosage.
Valentin could have chosen to lie, especially since Sonny already dislikes Jack and was pointing a gun at him at that moment. But viewers know this is true, as it occurred while Jack was in Pentonville; Valentin also mentioned that the bomber is someone named “Soliski” (Jeff Wolfe).
This seems credible, as Brick (Stephen A. Smith) informs Sonny and Jason (Steve Burton) that he has a lead on Soliski.
Although the bomb was a high-quality weapon created by the WSB, it doesn’t automatically imply that someone from the WSB, like Brennan, was responsible for the bombing; weapons were stolen.
The WSB Does Have Assassins-Jack Wouldn’t Have Hired An Outsider
It seems illogical for Jack to hire someone from outside to bomb Sonny’s apartment-Jack prefers to tie up loose ends, and bringing in an outsider would create unnecessary risk.
If Jack intended to eliminate Sonny, he would either do it himself or assign it to someone he fully trusts. What reason would Jack Brennan have to want Sonny dead?
There are numerous reasons that could give Jack a motive, especially considering Sonny’s extensive criminal background and ties to various crime organizations.
However, the most pressing reason for Brennan right now might be that both Sonny and Jason want Carly to avoid him; Brennan appears to have real feelings for Carly.
It Didn’t Start Out That Way
I believe things weren’t always like this; when the bombing occurred, Brennan was still attempting to win over Carly as part of his mission. It seems he only began to develop genuine feelings for her after she rescued him in Germany.
Now that he has those feelings, he might want Sonny out of the way, but I don’t think that was his reason for the bombing.
Valentin’s insights about Soliski are intriguing because they suggest that the person who tried to kill Sonny might not be connected to any of them.
I doubt that Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) was responsible for the bombing, even though he wants Sonny gone to take control of the pier.
Someone From Sonny’s Past Could Have Been Responsible
Someone from Sonny’s past could have been responsible-like Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roche) or a recast Jerry, since Sebastian has variously claimed he might, or won’t, return.
A significant hint that Jerry might return is that Valentin used polonium to poison the champagne meant for Brennan.
This same poison was used on Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) back in 2013 which is why Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) daughter, Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough), was able to save Carly.
Robin created the antidote for polonium poisoning after Jerry’s earlier attack, although viewers will recall Jerry also was suffering from polonium poisoning at the time.
If they are hinting at Jerry Jacks making a comeback, it could suggest that Jack didn’t randomly pick Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) as a WSB recruit; there could be a connection.
