General Hospital fans have been expecting to say farewell to Chad Duell’s Michael Corinthos for quite some time. At this time, fans have speculated just how the character will leave Port Charles. Since then, some leaked information gives a possible clue to the character’s fate.
General Hospital Fans Have Already Shared Theories On What Could Happen To Michael
Duell first joined the cast of General Hospital back in 2010. At the time, Michael had been portrayed by a variety of other actors, with Duell taking on the role from Drew Garrett.
On the soap, Michael is the son of A. J. Quartermaine and Carly Corinthos, as well as the adoptive son of Sonny Corinthos. During the past few years on the soap, the character has been married to Willow Tait, though the marriage isn’t without troubles.
However, Duell previously announced on Instagram that he would be leaving the soap after 14 years. At the time, the actor wrote, “After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show.”
As Duell continued, “This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life.” At the time, he notably wrote, “This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later.”
Taking to X, executive producer Frank Valentini also noted that, as previously reported, “There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime. I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”
With no immediate plans to recast the character, fans suspected that Michael would be leaving the series with Duell. While some suspected something permanent, others suggested something that left some room for the character to return.
One popular suggestion, at the time, was that the character could possibly fake his death to leave Port Charles. However, in the world of soaps, characters have been known to have come back from death itself.
Fans Have Shared Some Of Their Own Theories Over The Video
Recently, however, a leaked video seems to give a clue as to how Michael will be written off the series. On X, user Sloan Rush shared a preview of an upcoming episode.
In the 15-second video, a figure could be heard calling for help while trapped in a burning building, with his clothes even engulfed in flames. As Rush shared in the comments, “Looks like Michael is burnt to a crisp at Sonny’s penthouse.”
Other fans suggested, if Michael indeed gets caught in the fire, the soap could use this as an excuse to recast the character. As one fan wrote, “At least this way, they can bring the character back with a different face in a few years if they want.”
Another fan shared a similar sentiment, leaving the possibility for Duell to return. As they wrote, “I’m guessing it’s being written in a way where he has to go to long-term care or rehab so the character can return years from now. Hopefully not straight up death.”
