Laura Wright surprises fans by speaking out about GH’s Brennan recast.
Fans were stunned by the news that Charles Mesure had chosen to leave General Hospital and with the Feb. 4, 2025, episode, the role of Jack Brennan would now be played by Chris McKenna. And while McKenna has plenty of daytime bonafides — he played Joey on One Life to Live and Mark on The Young & The Restless — many viewers have a hard time adjusting to the switch.
“Big love to Charles,” Laura Wright (Carly) enthused on Twitter/X. “And a big welcome to Chris McKenna! And a big hug to all the fans — we love you so much and we are so grateful for you all.”
When a fan expressed how much they would miss Mesure in the role he created, Wright was quick to agree while also urging everyone to give McKenna a fair chance. “Oh, we were all sad to see Charles go — we all adored him!” she responded. “And we wish him so much love. We are so grateful and excited that Chris is part of the GH family!”
Wright and McKenna were part of the ABC Daytime family back in 1993 alongside OLTL’s Kirk Geiger (Kevin) and Mark Brettschneider (Jason).
Wright has known McKenna since the ‘90s when they were both working on New York City-based soaps — she played Ally on Loving and he was Joey on OLTL — so she’s naturally excited to see him again and actually share the screen for a change. “He’s a keeper!” the actress declared of her new co-star.
While some viewers are naturally disappointed that Mesure is gone, Wright reminded, “It was Charles’ choice to leave.” And being one of GH’s biggest cheerleaders, she is just enjoying being able to bring fans their daily dose of drama, love, and excitement with every new episode that airs.
“I’m just super grateful for the opportunity to work with these amazing actors,” Wright shared. “We show up every day bringing our best for you all!”
