Madison Brush is sharing her side of the story.
After the 29-year-old’s estrangment with dad Kody Brown has been widely discussed on the 19th season of the family’s reality show Sister Wives, the daughter of Kody and his ex Janelle Brown spoke her truth about cutting her dad out of her and her family’s life.
“I have no contact with some of my family, and it’s because of stuff that has happened,” Maddie shared on the Nov. 11 episode of her The Authentic Society podcast, later adding of Kody, “He doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that.”
The pregnant mother of three, who shares kids Axel, 7, Evie, 5, and Josephine, 21 months, with her husband Caleb Brush, has become estranged from her dad in the wake of his 2022 split from her mom.
“My dad would get very angry when I would—I’m a straight shooter,” Maddie explained. “You ask me a question, I’m going to tell you what I think. And he would get very angry when I would be like, ‘I don’t know why you’re surprised here.’ And so that was one of the reasons that I went no contact because it was like, he didn’t like a mirror being held up.”
She added that the father of 18 disagreed with some of her takes in relation to the feelings of her and her siblings.
As she explained, “There was a lot of anger and he’d be like, ‘That’s not true!’ and I’m like, ‘It is true. I know this firsthand.’”
Instagram/Madison BrushSimilarly, Maddie is not interested in strangers’ opinions on her relationship with her dad.
“I always get messages from people who are like, ‘You should just forgive your dad and respect him,’” she expressed. “And I’m like, ‘I don’t think you know what you’re talking about because your experience with your dad could be very different than my experience with my dad.’”
Kody, who split from Janelle, Christine Brown, and Meri Brown in the span of three years, is now only in one remaining relationship with wife Robyn Brown. He has become estranged from the majority of his older children in the wake of the COVID pandemic and his apparent favoritism toward Robyn.
TLCJanelle explained the situation to Kody during a recent episode of Sister Wives, telling her ex, “The kids are all feeling very estranged from you. There’s a lot of nuances, and I can’t be in the middle.”
